Import your backup to Hosterfy
In this guide, we'll look at how to import all your data from your old Palworld server.
Prerequisites
- A Palworld game offer from Hosterfy
- A local backup of a Palworld world
OR - Une sauvegarde d'un autre hébergeur
During this tutorial, we will differentiate between 2 cases: the case of a local backup, which therefore comes from your PC, and the case of a host backup, which therefore comes from another dedicated server.
WARNING: Your server must be stopped for all file / config modifications!
Steps to follow in both cases :
- Recovering the world folder -
If local backup:
- Windows + R then enter “%localappdata%”.
- Go to the Pal/Saved/SaveGames folder
- Retrieve the folder corresponding to your world (the one containing the “level.sav” file)
If saved by a hosting company:
- Retrieve your world under /Pal/Saved/SaveGames/0
WARNING: If you're coming from another host, identify whether it was running Windows or Linux.
Check with the folder name /Pal/saved/Config/ WindowsServer or LinuxServer
If you come from a Windows hosting company, please contact us using a ticket on your customer area or a post on our Discord to have your server adapted.
- Moving the folder to your Hosterfy server -
On the Hosterfy panel, go to /Pal/Saved/SaveGames/0 and move your world folder (the one with the long identifier).
You can do this by creating a zip of the folder and transferring it, then unzipping it from the web interface, or via SFTP to transfer the folder directly.
Open the config file under /Pal/saved/Config/LinuxServer/GameUserSettings.ini
Identify the line “DedicatedServerName=XXXXXXXXXXX” and replace the identifier with the name of the folder containing your world.
If you're coming from a previous web host / dedicated server :
You're done! Just boot up your server and enjoy! Your data has been recovered.
If you are using a local backup :
Your data has been recovered, but the host data needs to be converted before it can be used. If your friends connect to the server, they'll get everything back, but you, as the former host, will have to recreate a character.
Here's how to recover your data:
1- Log on to your server after following the steps above.
2- Create a blank character. Choices don't matter, it will be overwritten.
3- Once you've spawned, shut down the server
4- Transfer the map folder from Hosterfy to your PC
5- Download the following .exe script: https://github.com/JannikBirn/palworld-host-save-fix/releases/tag/v.0.1.2
6- Launch the software and select the “Level” file from the files transferred from Hosterfy.
Let the software load for a few minutes
7- In the first selector, select your character (see name and level) and in the second selector, select the new level 0 character you've created.
Leave the software to load for a few minutes, and it will replace the new character with your old backup.
8- Delete the Hosterfy world folder and replace it with the one you've just worked on.
All you have to do now is start the server and enjoy! Your data is back!
