Why Install Windows Server on a VM?
There are various reasons why installing Windows on a VPS may be a suitable option. Whether you want to test Windows applications in a secure environment or your software requires a Windows-specific environment to function, this solution will meet your needs.
Installing Windows on a VPS can be relatively time-consuming and complex for beginners. Fortunately, with Hosterfy, you benefit from automated Windows installation on our KVM VPS offerings.
Required Prerequisites
Before starting the installation, ensure that your VPS meets the following criteria:
- Processor: At least 2 cores.
- Memory: 4 GB or more.
- Disk Space: 60 GB of free space.
Installing Windows on an environment lacking these minimum resources could result in failure or instability.
Reinstalling the VPS
To use Windows on your server, you will need to reinstall it.
⚠️ Warning: Reinstalling a VPS permanently deletes all its data. Make sure to back up your data beforehand if you wish to keep it.
To reinstall your server, go to the management interface available at this address: https://vps.hosterfy.com or via the button in your client area (https://www.hosterfy.com/panel).
In the management interface, you will find a list of your VPS servers. Select the server on which you wish to install Windows:
Once the server is selected, you can proceed with the reinstallation via the designated button on the "Overview" page:
Installing Windows
After completing these steps, you should be able to proceed with the Windows installation through the form displayed on the screen.
This form is divided into two sections:
General VPS Information
- Name: The name displayed in the management interface of your servers, which will configure the hostname of your virtual machine.
- Hostname: If you want to specify a particular hostname, you can fill in this field.
- Time Zone: Configures the time zone on your server to display the correct time based on your geographic location.
Operating System Selection
For the purposes of this guide, we will select Windows Server 2025:
Once the desired Windows version is selected, simply click the "Install" button to have your VPS automatically installed and configured. Following the installation, you will receive an email with the initial login credentials for your Windows server. We strongly recommend changing these credentials to ensure the security of your server.
