Guide Import Palworld Save

Import Palworld Save to Hosterfy (Local & Dedicated)

Game Hosting Offers

In this guide, we will see how to migrate your Palworld adventure to our Hosterfy servers. Whether your save comes from your computer (local) or another host, we will detail the procedure step by step.

Note: Our Palworld servers run by default in a Windows environment to facilitate mod installation.

⚠️ WARNING: Before any manipulation, make sure your Hosterfy server is OFF via your management panel. Never modify save files while the server is running.

Prerequisites

I. Retrieving your save

The first step is to locate your current world folder. This folder contains a file named level.sav.

Case A: You have a local save (on your PC)

  1. On your keyboard, press the Windows R keys.
  2. Type %localappdata% and validate.
  3. Navigate to the folder: Pal > Saved > SaveGames.
  4. You will find a folder with a series of numbers (your SteamID). Open it.
  5. Copy the world folder (it's a folder with a long and complex name, e.g.: 28937492...) to your desktop.

Case B: You are coming from another host

Access your old host's FTP and retrieve the folder located here:
/Pal/Saved/SaveGames/0/

💡 Compatibility Note:
Save import generally works without issues, regardless of your old system. However, if you encounter a major compatibility problem, do not hesitate to open a support ticket. We may be able to switch your server to Linux if necessary.

II. Importing to your Hosterfy server

Now that you have your save folder, let's upload it to your new server.

  1. Connect to your Hosterfy server via SFTP (WinSCP or FileZilla).
  2. Go to the directory: /Pal/Saved/SaveGames/0/.
  3. Drag and drop your save folder (the one with the long identifier) into this directory.

Once the transfer is complete, we need to tell the server to load this specific world.

Configuring the GameUserSettings.ini file

  1. Still via SFTP or the panel's file manager, go to the Windows configuration folder:
    /Pal/Saved/Config/WindowsServer/
  2. Edit the file GameUserSettings.ini.
  3. Look for the line that starts with DedicatedServerName=.
  4. Replace the existing value with the exact name of the folder you just uploaded.

Example: If your folder is named "254876ADF...", the line should be: DedicatedServerName=254876ADF...

III. Finalization (Beware of local saves!)

Situation 1: You were coming from a dedicated server/host

You're done! You can start your server. Your players will find their progression, inventory, and Pals.

Situation 2: You were coming from a local game (Coop)

If you start the server now, the world will be there, but you (the former host of the local game) will have lost your character (back to level 1). Your friends, however, will have no problem. This is a technical behavior specific to Palworld related to identifiers (GUIDs) that differ between solo play and dedicated servers.

Here is the procedure to recover your administrator character:

  1. Start the server and connect. Create a new character (appearance doesn't matter).
  2. Once in-game, disconnect and stop the server.
  3. Via SFTP, download the Level.sav file located in your save folder on the server (the one we uploaded in step II).
  4. Download the save correction tool: Palworld Host Save Fix.
  5. Launch the software.
  6. Point the software to your Level.sav file.
  7. The software will ask you to select:
    • Source (Old): Your old character (identifiable by their high level).
    • Target (New): The new level 0/1 character you just created on the Hosterfy server.
  8. Validate. The software will "inject" your old data into the new identifier.
  9. Delete the world folder on the Hosterfy server and replace it with the one you just modified on your PC.

You can now start your server. Have fun playing on Hosterfy!

FAQ - Palworld Import

Why did my character disappear after import?
If you are coming from a local save (Coop), the host player's ID changes when moving to a dedicated server. You need to use the "Host Save Fix" script mentioned in step III.

Where can I find the Palworld configuration file on Hosterfy?
Since our servers are running Windows, the file is located in /Pal/Saved/Config/WindowsServer/GameUserSettings.ini.
